Rocky Mountains: The Beginning in Golden

Rocky Mountains: The Beginning in Golden

My first glimpse of the Canadian Rocky Mountains came around sunset in Golden, BC this past February. I started my adventure away from my home province of British Columbia by flying to Europe from Calgary. The idea of never having seen the Rockies on home turf seemed unreasonable and I didn’t know how long it would be before I would come home. The drive from Vancouver, north-east to Calgary, Alberta was an astounding adventure.

This shot taken right before the entrance of Golden, BC around sunset was my favourite and I thought I would share it with you lovely folk.

Thanks for following!

Sidney Centre – British Columbia

Sidney Centre - British Columbia

The closest city to Swartz Bay, British Columbia on Vancouver Island is Sidney. Swartz Bay is the location of the ferry terminal from the mainland to the southern portion of the island. On my way into Victoria this past week, I stopped in Sidney and managed to capture this shot. With the clock face in there, you’ll see how early the sun sets these days.

Until the next jaunt.

Gulf Islands in True Fish Eye

Gulf Islands in True Fish Eye

Upon purchasing a full frame camera, I finally am able to capture the full circle of my fish-eye lens. This particular shot was taken on the ferry between Tsawassen and Swartz Bay (in Sidney, British Columbia which is the terminal closest Victoria, British Columbia). The Gulf Islands of British Columbia are visible in this image, although there are quite a few among the Southern Gulf Islands and I don’t know them as well as I wish I did. They are simply the mass of islands in between the mainland of British Columbia and Vancouver Island and the divide between Northern and Southern seems to be Nanaimo, on Vancouver Island.

My estimation is that Saturna is one of the islands pictured here, but I’m not sure if the other two are North and South Pender or Mayne and Galiano.

In either case, I hope you are enjoying your Tuesday, no matter which land mass you are on!

Sweet 16 in Seattle

Sweet 16 in Seattle

Forever a free spirit, my parents asked me what I wanted to do for my 16th birthday and my response was to go to Seattle instead of having a party. With a little bit of convincing, I even got them to take me all the way to Aberdeen, Washington, the hometown of Kurt Cobain, singer of 90’s grunge band, Nirvana.

A woman never reveals her age, and although I usually think that’s bogus, you can use your imagination this time to figure out the year this photograph was taken, and with what camera, although it is indeed a digital photograph.

With the stunning North-West clouds being accented by the sunset on that February evening, I captured the skyline (cityscape? I don’t actually know the difference) with the infamous protruding Space Needle being the prominent point of interest. I believe we were stuck in traffic (typical of Seattle) on the highway and I took this through the window of my parent’s car.

Quebec Sunset

Quebec Sunset

I thought I was going a bit fish-eye crazy, so I want to revert to a more standardized style.

This shot was still sitting on a memory card that I finally got around to formatting today. It brought me back to Quebec in late summer in 2012. I spent hours and hours driving back and forth between towns of Otterburn Park and Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec and I grew to know the roads so well that I would even take shots while driving 120 km/h… But don’t tell the cops!

This capture of a sunset was taken on the way to picking up a friend at work and although it was a long drive, I loved doing it every day because the timing was perfect for extraordinary views like this. My real summer fling was with this freeway and the gorgeous clouds looming above.

Otterburn Park

It looks like I`m turning the daily in dailyjaunt to weekly. I`m of the mindset that I can accomplish a lot more than I actually can in a week. Maybe it`s just in the midst of a lot of chaos, I needed a bit of a break, but I`m back. No more sick animals, and I`ve got 2 months before I move to Montréal.

I spent my summer in the eastern part of Canada, and it captured me… Québec especially. I had one heck of a summer romance in a town about a half hour outside of the biggest city in the province, Montréal, called Otterburn Park. It neighboured Saint-Hilaire, with a mountain sharing the same name.

With nerves eating me up inside, as soon as I turned off the highway into my love`s town upon arrival, I stopped to take this photograph. It was the end of a beautiful sunset, offset by my love of bridges, so I swerved to the shoulder of the road, put on my hazard lights and grabbed my camera. I had a lot of hope and it seems the sky wanted to show it off.

A late summer sunset in Otterburn Park, Québec.

To anyone still around to see what I`m posting: You are the coolest! Thanks for caring. I keep you all updated on what the new plan is when it comes to posting on this site. I`m thinking bi-weekly, but my life, as well as the pursuit of my photography career is too demanding for me to be able to post daily… For now!

Any and all comments are appreciated. 🙂

The Gorge Ampitheater

After mounds and mounds of work (most of which was filed nicely inside of a computer, so more like gigs and gigs) kept me away from WordPress for too long!

A couple weeks ago, I saw Tenacious D at the Gorge Amphitheater on Monday night of Sasquatch! Music Festival. Here’s a picture from that show. (I have the coolest job in the world!!)

Washington State

Hello again, friends! I have returned to the internet, as well as North Vancouver! Time for some new pictures, right? That was the point of my trips to Las Vegas and central Washington State!

Being that the second half of my trip was photographing for “work” (can you really call THAT much fun “work”?) for http://www.concertaddicts.ca, I have begun to tackle the massive photo-editing mission in front of me from the middle, to the end, then back to the beginning until I finish back at the middle. If you’re still with me after that one, here’s my first photograph on my way to central Washington.

This was taken at 8:25pm on May 25, 2012. Me and my partner in crime throughout the duration of Sasquatch! Music Festival were headed the Gorge Amphitheater in George, Washington and here we were about halfway there on our drive from Vancouver, British Columbia, so likely just a few miles outside of Seattle. I love that you can spy the word “Travel” along the bottom and the beautiful sunset of this gorgeous late spring evening took my breath away. At a nearby gas station, the attendant didn’t seem quite as impressed with the sky, as he told me that later in the summer, the colours appear much more vibrant.

Stranraer, Scotland

As you may have noticed, I usually don’t include the country in my title, but in this case, it seemed to fit. While traveling, there’s a lot of passing through. Stranraer, Scotand is a town in the southwest of Scotland, right on the coast. I briefly went by the city on my way from Belfast, Ireland to Glasgow, Scotland. There is a ferry, called the Stena Line, which transports passengers from Belfast to Stranraer and from there, I caught a bus to Glasgow. I happened to arrive just in time for a gorgeous sunset, and what with the beautiful weather here at home these days, I’m all about a gorgeous sky!

A gorgeous sunset in Stranraer, Scotland right after I got off a ferry in September 2011.

A Sunset over Vancouver

image

I missed yesterday’s post, but in a few hours, I’ll put up another shot from Paris and the first shot in Venice. This picture was a result of not being able to use my computer. all this was done on my phone.
